Summer Update

I hope everyone's summer is going well and you're all having a lot of fun.  For us, it's one of the busiest summers that I can remember, but the difference from past summers is that we're actually doing some fun stuff.  So it's been good.

Couple of topics to bring up with you.  First, I'm having a  meeting with the Superintendent this week.  The conversation I have with him will be completely based on your comments, suggestions, and some of my own observations.  I'm hoping that some good will come out of this.  It won't be a quick fix, but maybe it will be a start to seeing some positive change.

I have some time before the meeting, so please more comments, suggestions, etc are very welcome (as always).  As I said in my last post "keep it coming".

Second, I would like some feedback from those of you who are participating in Summer Enrichment this year.  How do you like it?  How does it compare to previous years?  What kind of rating would you give it?  What would you do to improve it if you could?

That's it for now.  Next week, I'll have more to update.  In the meantime, enjoy your summer days!

  1. Do you have an agenda that you could post of what suggestions, concerns, you are going to address this week with the superintendent? Example: what grade levels , what schools , what education topics, funding, etc.

    1. The overall agenda is a list of things that I think can make the school better. The list I came up with is based on my initial thoughts about the school. But all of the comments and suggestions I have received on this blog has definitely helpled me fine tune my ideas and also validated that I am not the only person who feels the schools can be better. There's probably too much to list here, but the three main topics have to do with COMMUNICATION - different suggestions to make it better between the schools and the parents; MARKETING - how to present the school in a better light. Out with negative and focus on the positive; POLITICS - exploring more about the political process, and talk about creating a cohesive system that will be more effective in getting things done.

  2. This is my first experience with Summer Enrichment. We did a one week class and the class itself was fine. I was very disappointed that each day the kids were given candy/junk food. What the heck, my kids are with you for 3 hours and you ask me to send a snack. Why the need for candy and junk food? They had more junk that week then I let them have at Halloween. We may be a bit more conservative when it comes to that sort of consumption.

    1. are you saying that your child received candy and junk food supplied by the instructor of this program? If so that sounds strange.what program was this?
Or are you saying that they requested you send a snack daily? And you sent candy or junk food ?
If the instructor supplied this I agree it should not have happenned without parental permission, many children have allergies to specific foods. - But if you sent it , then I believe you were free to send things like apples, oranges, etc as a snack.

    2. To me it sounds like mom/dad supplied a snack, and the instructor supplemented with "junk food". Although I don't know exactly what was given by the instructor, I would suggest letting the school know about your experience. Communication is very important.

    3. Indeed if the instructor supplied the candy and junk food. I for one would like to know what class, what instructor and yes definitely notify the school, but let all parents be alert to who and what class also. We need to communicate to all. I would appreciate the person who posted this to post that information on this site also.

    4. I am the original poster. Yes my healthy snack was supplemented with junk. There was a check box at sign-in for food allergies. I really like this instructor and think her class is wonderful; I'm sure she thought she was being clever with the candy projects and of course my kids thought the projects were fun and they made extras for their sibling. I suppose I'll send a message to the school about my disappointment. But frankly, I'm not going to post the name of the class or the instructor here.

    6. Hi, I would like to remind people that this blog welcomes all comments regarding the school, positive and negative, however no name calling will be tolerated. Everyone has their own beliefs and we are not going to judge that. Please keep your posts civil.
To the original sender who wrote about the junk food issue, I apologize that someone would be so disrespectful.

    8. You are allowed to feel as annoyed as you want, and you can talk about that here, but again, name calling is unnecessary, and quite frankly an argument loses credibility when there is name calling. So again, I ask you to keep your posts civil and mature.
      thank you.

    9. I guess I'm done with this site. You only want to hear comments that agree with your own point of view. Have fun with your one-way conversation. I hope it's constructive.

    10. I'm sorry to hear that. I can tell this is a sensitive subject for you, and I'm sure for other people as well. And I welcome all your comments about the subject, but that shouldn't include berating individuals. A two-way conversation can't happen if the people involved take it personally.

I don't want to spend anymore time on this, but I would like you to note that even though your last comment is negative, I am keeping it posted. Why? Because you didn't name call. That's all I ask.

  3. I have a request that I would appreciate you bring with you to your meeting. Can you ask Mr. Ingano to publish something in the newspaper or on the school site regarding what improvements are planned. I have no seen anything posted or published recently. Also note the school site, nothing is updated -they still have Mr. Vetros on the middle school site, nothing new or current, no school supply list yet either.

  4. Anyone know who the business manager is yet ? Also anyone know the status of assitant principal at the middle school. School opening is not that far away. We should have those positions on board by now.

  6. Hello,

Yes, I did have my meeting and I'll be letting you all know how it went. I'm going to be posting about it this weekend.

But I can say, I think it went well, and hopefully it's a start to some postive changes.
